TIDWTFT

This week has felt so much better to me. Things are slower at work so I've had time to get myself organized and do some real soul searching about what is important to me. I see some big changes over here in the coming months and as things unfold, I can't wait to continue to share the journey.

Both:

1. Emma and Josh love, love, love to read books. They especially love the Happy Baby series and are constantly bringing books to anyone who will read to them. They also love Moo, Baa, La La La and when they find it in their basket of books, they both say "La, la, la"

2. Because of all the book reading we have been doing, Emma and Josh have picked up a ton of new words this week. I've heard them each say bear, shoes, frog, duck, milk, cup, toes, cookies, chick and girl. We're up to 21 words!

Emma:

1. We don't do much baby signing with them but the one that they did pick up is "eat." The other day, Emma got into the pantry and grabbed a bag of Gerber cookies and was clutching it with one hand, signing "eat" with the other and saying "coo-kee, coo-kee" It was so cute that of course I gave her one!

Josh: 1. He figured out how to take off his diaper this week at Dan's parents' house. He did it during a nap and although he peed all over the crib, at least it was just pee! Let's hope this isn't a new habit he has picked up.

Are they here yet? 91/365

Whenever someone is coming to visit or if we are waiting for Dan to come home from work, I will ask Emma and Josh, "Are they here yet, do you see them" and both run to the door. Emma tires of this quickly, but not Josh. He bends his little face past the frosted glass on the side lite and looks and looks. And when he sees whoever is coming? He gets so excited!

Mama's girl 90/365

Neither Emma nor Josh are super cuddly but on this day, Emma kept laying her head on my shoulder so finally Dan grabbed the camera!

Vacuum Repairman 89/365

I left out my vacuum and my carpet cleaner because we were carpet cleaning after the kid's went to bed. Well both Emma and Josh are very frightened of the vacuum when its on but once they were unplugged, Josh wanted to play with the cords, I could barely get him away!

Baby, Im amazed by you

Both Emma and Josh totally amazed me tonight. It started with Emma. We have the Fisher Price Laugh and Learn Farm and it has three small vegetables in the shape of a circle, square and triangle. Emma looked at them and then one after another, placed them in the proper spaces! Crazy. A couple minutes later, Josh picked up my tennis shoe, looked at me and said "Shoe!" and then handed it to me. I've never specifically taught him that word so it was funny to hear him just come up with it.

These kids are smart, I tell ya!

Happy Monday, hope everyone is having a good day!

Multi functional toys 88/365

Emma has a V-tech jewelry box and Josh has the tool box but each of them love to take parts for the one toy and stick it with the other. In these pictures, Emma was using her lipstick and perfume to pound in a few nails!

Buds 86 and 87/365

Emma and Josh like to be together. Sure, they steal toys and push one another of my lap, but they still are little buddies. Yesterday, I caught them sitting on the couch reading together and then once Josh wanted to play the piano, Emma wanted to sit up there with him too. They also sometimes hold hands while in their highchairs, chase after each other down the hall and laugh hysterically at one another for no reason!

Baby 85/365

Emma has a stuffed baby doll that she loves. She really loves the rim of the hat on the baby and clutches it when she is tired, while she sucks her thumb. She also walks around burping the baby, too and says "Bup, Bup"

Great Grandma Helper 84/365

Everyone likes to come and see Emma and Josh and its a great time for me to get a break from feeding. My grandma came and fed them and they loved it!

TIDWTFT

Emma:

1. Her new things to mimic are brushing and washing her hair. If she sees the hair brush, she grabs it and puts it by her head. When she is in the bath, she likes to help me wash her hair and Josh's, too.

2. When she is feeding herself, she sometimes looks at me and holds out a piece of food, like she wants to give it to me. So I lean in and say "Oh, you want to share with Mommy" and as I get closer, she quickly puts the piece of food in her mouth and laughs. What a jokester!

Josh:

1. Dan does this thing where he hold him while Josh is laying flat and then Josh puts his head back so he is looking upside down. Dan then takes him to different things in the house (or to Emma and me) and says "Extreme Close Up, Extreme Close up" and Josh laughs hysterically!

2. He has a funny "stretching routine" when he wakes up in the morning. It starts right when he wakes up, he does one long stretch right when he rolls over. And then the stretching continues when I unzip him from his sleep sack. But he doesn't stop there! He continues to stretch when I put him on the changing table to change his diaper.

Little Miss Independent 83/365

It was nice the other day so we took Emma and Josh out for a little. They've only been outside a couple times since they've been able to walk so its such an experience. Josh wanted to stay up by the house and watch Dan shoot the basketball but of course Emma wanted to roam. She ran up and down the sidewalk and i think she would have just kept going if I didn't stop her. She also thought the street looked fun and was clearly not happy when I told her the street was not for playing

Ridin' Backwards 82/365

Emma and Josh are starting to use their riding toys more but Josh loves to sit on his backwards!

A mom is a mom

I read a lot of blogs and message boards and it seems like there is always this debate over being a Working Mom (WM) versus a Stay at Home Mom (SAHM) What's better for my family? What's better for me? What's easier? The questions of what's better for you and your family really varies from family to family and from situation to situation. But there is one question that has a universal answer in my opinion and that is "Which one is easier, WM or SAHM?" and the answer? A resounding "NEITHER!"

A mom is a mom first. Whether she works in the home or outside of the home, she does lose part of her identity when she becomes a mother. Her hands reach to cut her child's food before she even considers cutting her own. She sleeps with one ear towards the baby monitor, always listening for a cough or a cry. I oftentimes don't make enough time for myself because I work so hard to balance being a mom, wife, sister, friend and worker. Whether you work in the home or outside of the home, there is still the struggle to "have it all."

A mom has to sacrifice. It doesn't matter if you stay at home or if you work, the sacrifice is there. I get up an hour earlier so that I can work, work out and get myself ready before my kids get up. I used to skip lunches with friends so that I could pump in my car while I ate a cold sandwich. I have canceled dinner with my husband because one of my kids was sick. Its a sacrifice but I would do it in a heartbeat for my children.

A mom has fears. She fears that she doesn't do enough with her kids. She fears that they don't eat enough or eat the right things. She fears her kids are doing one thing too much and another thing not enough. She fears her child will get sick. These fears are the same whether you stay home or work. Your child's well being is always on your mind.

A mom needs more. She needs more sleep, more time alone, more time to clean, cook, organize. To me, this is true whether you have all day at home or just a few hours. There is never enough time in the day to do all of the things that need to be done as a mom. You could give me 24 hours straight to just do stuff and it still wouldn't be enough.

A mom wants to be good enough. She wants to be a good mom, a good wife, a good friend, a good cook. I know I struggle every day to make sure I am good enough. I want to be a mom that my kid's are proud of, a wife that my husband is proud of, a shoulder my friends can lean on and heck, I love cooking a good meal too! Whether you stay home or work outside the home, every mom has those fears and insecurities that she can't do it all.

I have friends that are SAHM's and friends that are WM's and we all have a lot in common. In the end, we love our children like crazy and we just want to get it right. We sacrifice, we worry and we don't always take enough time for ourselves. All we can do is support one another and realize that the feelings we have about being mothers are shared whether your job is at home or not.

Giving Hugs and kisses 80/365

When I tell either Emma or Josh to give the other hugs and kisses, they run to one another with open arms. Sometimes, however, the recipient of the hug is not always interested. In this case, Josh was not interested in Emma trying to give him a big old hug and kiss!

"Come here you...."

"But I dont want a hug!"

"Mommy said I have to hug you and you are going to like it!"

Organizing the Pantry 79/365

I have a confession. Sometimes I let Emma and Josh make a mess simply because it keeps them busy. I am not talking about a huge mess but if they want to pull boxes of food out of the pantry and they have fun doing it for 10 minutes, so be it!

Peaceful 78/365

I took this picture of Emma and I think she looks so peaceful. Granted, she got right up and started running around right after but for this one moment? Peaceful.

TIDWTFT The 15 month version

15 months? Wow. I can't believe it! These kids have really grown. Let's see what they are up to:

Both:

1. I notice they both say the same words. I think we are up to 11: mama, dada, car, cheese, night night, ball, block, see, hot dog (it sounds like gog gog- so cute), dribble dribble (for the basketball), ba-na (for banana)

2. The both can point to their nose, belly, head and ears. We are going to work on mouth and eyes next.

3. They understand a lot and can look at the door when I say someone is coming and can find most toys by name. They also walk to the kitchen and stand in front of their high chairs when its time to eat and wait at the top of the stairs when we say its time to go downstairs.

4. They are great eaters and eat a lot of what we eat. Some new things they tried are mangoes, avocado and they even ate some pork ribs that I made (I wiped the sauce off and they gobbled them up!)

5. They love to mimic what we do. I was sick last week and every time I coughed into my sleeve, they both did the same thing. The newest one is that they like to pretend to talk into the phone and even if I give them a block or another item and say "Helllooo", they then pick it up and say "H'oooo" So cute.

6. They also both like the theme song to the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and they especially like "The Hot Dog" dance at the end. They do their own version of the dance which is basically them running in place really fast while saying "Gog-gog, gog-gog" It makes me laugh every time.

Emma:

1. She still does not have any molars. She is holding steady at 8 teeth.

2. She loves to look at pictures, especially of me and Dan and of her and Josh. She really likes our wedding pictures and when I turn the page and she sees Dan or me, she squeals and then points! She also loves the video montage I made for their first birthday and many nights, we lay in bed and watch it on Dan's I-pod before they go to bed.

Josh:

1. He has another 3 teeth on top although I can't see them very well. That makes a total of 13 teeth.

2. He loves to splash in the bathtub. The second I put him in, his hands come crashing down into the water and he drenches me. The look on his face though when he does it is so cute so I do let him splash around a bit and then just clean up later!

Outside looking in 77/365

This is a first- Josh was actually looking longingly into the Super Yard and wanting to get in instead of out! Maybe he just wanted to see Aunt Kristin!

Climbers 75 and 76/365

Emma and Josh love climbing up and down the stairs to our finished basement. Love it. They both turn onto their bellies and then start the trip down. Emma takes one step at a time and sometimes turns around and wants to actually walk down the stairs. She is pretty fast! Josh is slower and it often takes some coaxing to get him down. He also likes to just slide down on his belly. So funny!

Before the make the trek down...

...Emma stopping for a rest...

...and Josh actually sliding on his belly!

I caught the cutest picture of Emma with Dan. I love it!

Not amused 73/365

Most morning, I put Emma and Josh in the same crib for a few minutes while I pick out their clothes. They love it! They wrestle, hug and laugh at one another. Except for this morning. Josh was apparently too rough with Emma or maybe she was not happy about the one hour less of sleep because she wanted out of that crib and she let me know it! (oh and disregard how chewed up Emma's crib is. Im guessing its too late to get those plastic crib guards!)

Laundry 72/365

I left Josh and Emma for 30 seconds with my folded pile of laundry so that I could put some kitchen towels away. I came back to this!

On the run 71/365

I caught Josh thinking about going for a nice jog on the treadmill. Don't worry, the treadmill wasn't on!

TIDWTFT

Another week in between posts. Clearly work is still busy and I can barely keep up with anything but I did manage to get a post together!

Emma:

1. She is not much for sharing. If she sees Josh with something, she immediately wants it. If I give her the exact same item, it doesn't matter. She wants the one that is in HIS hands. If she gets it out of his hands and I give him something else, guess what? She wants that, too!

2. This week, Josh was crying about something and Emma went up to him and patted his back and hugged him. It was so precious!

Josh:

1. We went back to the doctor and his skin is doing good. His body does not have any redness except on his feet. His face has a few spots, normally around his eyes where we can't use the steroid cream. His scalp is the worst and he still scratches it so we are hoping we can get that part under control.

2. He loves the sound his shoes make on our wood or ceramic floor. He will stomp his feet over and over and then laugh, its so cute!

Hey Buddy! 70/365

Emma and Josh like to play together even though Emma doesn't like to share and Josh likes to hit her with toys. They are still buddies!

Up and Over 68/365

Emma is always a climber. She will find any way to get up and over just about anything!
