TIDWTFT

Again excuse the grainy cell phone pictures! The pictures are from a trip to the library for a story time.  And one of Josh is from my grandparents house, we visited them this week.

Emma:

1. We were driving and she told me a couple times that she saw a Christmas sign.  When  I asked her about the sign, she told me "I am talking about the one with the reindeer jumping, its for Christmas!"   A few minutes later we drove past a "Deer Crossing" sign and she said "See, mama, a reindeer!"

 Josh:

1. He has learned that when things like the stove, microwave or toaster beeps, his food will be coming shortly.  And he listens for the beep and then yells "It beeped, that means the food is ready!'  Every.single.time!

Both:

1. They both love to help do things and are always asking to dust, clean the floors or help me cook.  Of course it ends up taking ten times longer but I love that they are interested!

Snow Time

We have a few inches of snow and it got above 30 degrees so we decided to go outside and play for a little. Josh loved it and went on the sleds a bunch of times. He also kept asking to go in and have hot chocolate though! Emma was not very interested and wanted to collect sticks instead of playing.

Looks how big they look this year!

Visit at Kiki's house

We went to my sister's house today for a visit since we all haven't seen each other in a couple weeks. Everyone has been sick so this is the first time we've had a in a couple weeks to get together. Emma and Josh loved playing with Olivia's baby toys and Olivia looked so cute in the outfit I got her for Christmas.

Emma:

1. She likes to talk about thinks that happened "mesterday" which is what she says instead of "yesterday."  She will say "Mesterday, I had that for dinner but today I am having this." She mispronounces very few words so its cute for her to say it like that.

Josh:

1. He repeats a lot of the phrases that I use.  I accidentally put away some stuffed animals that they were playing with and he told me "I am not going to tolerate that behavior."  Oh boy.

Both:

1. I catch them giggling together all the time.  Or sometimes plotting against me.  I let them play in their room alone since I am right down the hall and often I hear "Shhh, be quiet so mommy doesn't hear!"

Perspective: Snow

Today, it is freezing here. Actually, it would probably feel balmy if it were freezing because the high today barely made it into double digits. Gotta love Ohio.

All day, I joined every one I met in the usual complaints about the cold temperature and the snow. I wore a heavy wool hat, two pairs of socks and calculated the days left until spring about ten times.

And then I picked up Emma and Josh. They ran up to me and said "Look Mom, Snow!!". Emma then said to me "The snow is beautiful!". What a different perspective than what I had all day. Instead of seeing slushy roads and coldness, my children saw beauty. Instead of being bothered by the snow and cold, they were excited. Perspective.

I planned to run them to the car quickly but instead, I pulled hats over their ears and let them catch snowflakes on their tongues. While I watched them, I was thankful for the reminder that each day, I can choose how I view the things that happen to me.

TIDWTFT

Excuse the short post and grainy iPhone photos, I have a million things to today and not much time to do it!

Emma:

1. I have mentioned that she loves drawing.  Her two favorite things to draw are suns and spiders, except they look exactly the same.  Its a circle with a bunch of lines coming out.  Precious.

Josh:

1. He is a little reporter and always tells me what everyone else is doing.  "Mom, Emma just tried type on your computer." "Daddy just ate a cookie."  "Papa gave me chocolate milk."  I better watch what I do around him!

He never wears pants at home

Ever.  But he does like to clean!

Little Artists

Emma and Josh enjoy art projects and recently got an an art table from my parents for Christmas.  Between that and their easel, they have plenty of room to be creative.  Emma loves to color and mostly makes circles.  She also holds the crayon the proper way and can sit for awhile.  Josh is more interested in making lines but struggles to hold the crayon and prefers to grasp it with all fingers.  He also gets bored quickly, such a boy!

12 in 2012 Reflection

When I came across the 12 in 2012 project at the beginning of 2012, it inspired me and I was so excited to embark on the project.  I had high hopes for completing a bunch of well planned tasks and, in the end, bettering myself.

As I reflect back on the project, I am so glad I took part in it. It gave me the opportunity to set goals and challenged me to complete those goals. In doing the project, I also learned one valuable piece of information about me:  I EXPECT WAY TOO MUCH FROM MYSELF.

I think that on the surface, its easy to say "Hey, that's not a bad thing.  We should expect a lot from ourselves!"   I agree. But I also think that its really easy to become UNHAPPY because you and your life don't look how you EXPECT it to look.  And that, my friends, is me.

Don't get me wrong, I am not unhappy all of the time. In general, I am a happy person.  I have found, however, that I set up a lot of expectations for myself and then end up making myself miserable trying to execute the expectations.

So where does that leave in in 2013? My goal in 2013 is simple, I want to have better Perspective.  Instead of seeing what I don't have, I want to realize all of the blessings around me.  Instead of identifying my shortcomings, I want to rejoice in my triumphs. I want to see the good and not just focus on how things didn't work out quite how I planned.  I truly believe that this will allow me to be a better wife and a better mom.   And a better me...because I deserve it, too!

"Whether an event is good or bad depends on your choice of perspective not the event itself."

TIDWTFT

Another week! As I type this, Emma and Josh are playing in our playroom in the basement and told me "Its ok, Mom. You can go upstairs, we are playing down here!"

Emma:

1. I have mentioned how she loves to eat and she really does.  I told her to pick out a bowl for her cereal so she opened the drawer and sifted through them until she found a big tupperware bowl and said "You can put my cereal in here, mom!"

Josh:

1. Boy does he love Emma! I was disciplining Emma by removing one of her toys and she was crying.  Josh ran up to me and said "You be nice to my sister!" and then he grabbed the toy and told me "I am giving it back to Emma, you are making her sad." Looks like she has a little protector.

TIDWTFT

The holidays are over and its back to getting up early and going to work.  I got used to seeing Emma and Josh so often and I missed them a lot yesterday.   At least this is a short week and the weekend is almost here!

Emma:

1. I have been removing items from her if she misbehaves and she seems to understand that this is not a good thing because now she threatens to remove items from me if she isn't happy.

2. I asked her if she wanted to try dance class again and she told me she wanted to try soccer instead.
Yes, in just her underwear.  Its a new thing at our house, no pants!

Josh:

1. He is obsessed with the snow and begs me to let him stick his hands in it when I load him into the car.

2. He has become a horrible sleeper and thinks of every excuse to try to get out of bed including the potty, needing to be covered up and the newest excuse? bugs in his bed.
Josh, sans pants
Both:

1. They are still really into pretending and always have some kind of elaborate set up that involves a story that I can't seem to follow.  But they have so much fun and its enjoyable to watch them!
